Add to Calendar 2014-09-03 2014-09-03 35 Taylor ho Bynum's Acoustic Bicycle Tour at Royal Academy Of Music, Concert Room Beginning on August 28 in Vancouver, Canada and continuing through the first day of October on the Mexican border, composer and cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum will present his Acoustic Bicycle Tour – a five week, 1800-mile performance journey where Bynum travels solely by bicycle, presenting solo concerts and playing with ensembles of area musicians.

Tonight, for his stop at The Royal Room, Bynum will perform with Cuong Vu (trumpet), Carmen Rothwell (bass), and Dylan van der Schyff (drums).

Bynum sees the entire trip as a kind of composition. Like all his music, it looks to combine the predetermined, indeterminate, improvised, intuitive and structured into an organic whole. The endeavor is a performance art piece, a philosophical statement, a celebration of musical community, and an exercise in extreme physicality. There are clear analogies between choosing to travel by bike and the path of creative music: the trip may be slower and more arduous, but it is ultimately more rewarding in its acoustic pleasures and unexpected delights.
