About
“I absolutely love improvising,” says Scottish-born singer Chantelle Duncan. "And as a solo artist, I love to sing soul and funk.” An award-winning vocalist, Chantelle has been called “a Celtic Eva Cassidy” on more than one occasion. She initially studied jazz & popular music in Newcastle before going on the road as a backing vocalist with tours in Japan, the Middle East and New York City. Her credits include radio and television work as well as writing and recording both for herself and other artists, including a duet with Maceo Parker at The Roundhouse and performing with Dr John, Gilbert O'Sullivan, Brian May, ABC and Alexander O'Neal. When she isn’t singing backup for the likes of Nile Rodgers or Ronnie Wood, she can be heard in and around London and Hastings singing jazz and soul music or fronting one of the many bands with which she regularly appears, including the original band Berakah. And just in the last 18 months alone, Chantelle has played with Quincy Jones, Sarah Jane Morris, James Morrison, Marc Almond, Angel, Marcella Detroit and Mica Paris. Tonight she will be performing a groove-laden set of classic Soul and R&B standards accompanied by a fantastic band of 606 Club regulars including Alex Bennett-keyboard, Greg Heath-sax, Dave Ital-guitar and Mark Mondesir-drums. Quite a line up and anyone who saw Chantelle’s last gig here in November will know just how good she is. Booking recommended....
