About
This exceptional quintet is led by Laurence Cottle, one of the finest electric bass players this country has ever produced. His stunning, Jaco Pastorius-influenced technique and remarkably fluent and creative playing have been featured with innumerable artists including the Bill Bruford Band, Jim Mullen, Claire Martin, Jason Rebello and Pee Wee Ellis as well as the likes of Eric Clapton, Brian Eno, Gary Moore, Cozy Powell and Black Sabbath! A consummate performer Laurence is also an accomplished writer, arranger and producer whose work is not only featured with his own, excellent, 16-piece Big Band, but can also be heard on the soundtrack of various TV and film productions including Kavanagh QC, Take A Girl Like You and the Jim Carrey Movie Special, while his production credits include Claire Martin, Jim Mullen and Mark Nightingale. The music is a mix of Laurence’s original compositions and re-workings from the classic jazz canon performed, not surprisingly, by some of the finest jazz musicians in Europe, Nigel Hitchcock (Incognito, Ray Charles, Tom Jones) sax, Steve Fishwick (Anita O’Day, John Dankworth) trumpet, Graham Harvey (Stacey Kent) piano and Chris Higginbottom (Seamus Blake, Georgie Fame) drums. Highly recommended....
