Nikki Iles at 606 Club

A performer, teacher and composer, award-winning musician Nikki Iles is widely regarded as one of the finest modern jazz pianists in Europe. After establishing her credentials as both performer and educationalist in the North of England, most notably with the Creative Jazz Orchestra and as a lecturer at the Leeds College of Music, Nikki moved to London in the late 90’s. Since then her fluent and creative playing has been heard with a wide variety of the finest UK musicians, including the likes of Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone and Tina May as well as with her own trios and quartets. A greatly respected teacher she is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music and was part of the team that developed the new Associated Boards Jazz grades. In 2002, in California USA, she was awarded the International Association of Jazz Educators Award for Outstanding Services to Jazz Education. And as if all that wasn’t enough she is also a highly regarded composer, with commissions ranging from the London Sinfonietta to Tim Garland. Tonight Nikki will be performing a mix of her great originals along with a selection of beautifully arranged classic jazz standards with her terrific quintet, that consists of a formidable mix of younger and more established players featuring Josh Arcoleo-sax, Mike Outram-guitar, Dave Whitford-bass and James Maddren-drums.
