About

The Printmakers are a "Supergroup" put together by two of the UK's finest musicians, pianist Nikki Iles and vocalist Norma Winstone to, as they put it, "...cross the boundaries that traditionally separate jazz, folk and the contemporary music world…". A performer, teacher and composer, the multi award-winning Nikki Iles is widely regarded as one of the finest modern jazz pianists in Europe. After establishing her credentials in the North of England Nikki moved to London in the late 90’s. Since then her adroit and creative playing has been heard with a wide variety of exceptional musicians, including Peter Erskine, Kenny Wheeler and Art Farmer as well as with her own trios and quartets. A greatly respected teacher she is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music. Since her first appearance in the late 60's Norma Winstone MBE has risen to be widely regarded as one of Europe's greatest jazz vocalists. Winner of the 1971 Melody Maker Jazz Poll, in the late seventies she joined pianist John Taylor and trumpeter Kenny Wheeler to form the iconic and enormously influential group Azimuth. She has had a long association with the iconic ECM jazz label and in 2001 won Best Vocalist in the BBC Jazz Awards. She was Grammy nominated in 2008, won the Skoda Jazz Ahead Award in 2009, received a Lifetime Achievement Jazz Medal in 2010, won the Parliamentary Jazz Award in 2015 and this year (2017) won the Jazz FM Award for Vocalist of the Year. A fantastic pairing. Completing the line up are: guitarist Mike Walker (The Impossible Gentlemen), saxophonist Mark Lockheart (Polar Bear), bassist Steve Watts (Iain Ballamy) and drummer James Maddren (Gwilym Simcock). This is an extraordinary group that has something that will touch everyone....
