About
Singer-pianist Theo Jackson has gained a reputation on the scene as a composer and performer of strikingly original songs combined with a captivating stage presence. His 2012 album "Jericho" was received with impressive reviews, including All About Jazz who said the album "heads towards a…fascinating musical destination". His signing to publisher Splash Point (who have also promoted the likes of Liane Carroll and Ian Shaw) demonstrates just how talented he is. Recently Theo was recognised for setting lyrics to the late bassist Scott Lafaro’s composition, “Gloria’s Step,” which led to a one-off publishing deal with Concord Jazz, and he has performed at a number of major festivals including Cheltenham, Rye & Love Supreme. In addition, his other projects include an ongoing duo collaboration with award-winning saxophonist Nathaniel Facey and “Gentlemen of Jazz”, a programme of standards paying tribute to the great male jazz vocalists. Most recently though, Theo has been focusing on his latest record, “Shoeless & the Girl”, released through label Dot Time Records in the spring of 2015. This evening, Theo will perform material from that album, including his adaptations of “Footprints” and “Wild Flower” (which have been personally approved by Wayne Shorter), as well as a selection of standards written by composers including Pat Metheny & Duke Ellington. He will be joined by the exciting young saxophonist Leo Richardson, Australian bassist Huntly Gordon and drummer Marco Quarantotto. Theo considers the 606 his “home away from home” and we are delighted to welcome him this evening....
