DON WELLER QUARTET
Saxophonist Don Weller's long career has taken him from a 1955 performance as soloist on Mozart's Clarinet Concerto at Croydon Town Hall aged 15, through his 1970s jazz-rock group Major Surgery, his celebrated quartet with drummer Bryan Spring, to regular work with pianist Stan Tracey, trumpeter Harry Beckett and in a quintet with Art Themen. Renowned for his versatility, he stood in for Michael Brecker when the Gil Evans Orchestra played at the 1980 Bracknell Jazz Festival, subsequently touring recording with the band. Also in the 1980s, Weller performed with fellow tenor sax players, Dick Morrissey and Bobby Wellins, and was involved in the films 'Absolute Beginners' and 'Stormy Monday' as both performer and composer.
